It was sensory overload for the Lane-Knight team at this year’s showing of fall fashions at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.  Alison, head of LK’s marketing department, with Moleskine, Canon camera and partner in crime, Rachel, in tow, infiltrated Lincoln Center’s white tents to get a glimpse of Fall 2012’s fashions

Delicate lace, tribal and reptile prints, crimson leather jackets and military regalia was the name-of-the game for Fall 2012 fashions.  Although these elements to some might seem trendy and intimidatingly too of-the-mo, they are in actuality styles that have been relevant for many seasons, and hopefully many seasons to come.  What’s great about this continuation and revival of classic trends is that the apparel and accessories of Fall 2012 will seamlessly become staples in your wardrobe (aka you’ll feel less guilty about buying those pricer items).

One of our favorite shows we attended was Rebecca Minkoff, a designer Lane-Knight has carried for years and who has recently blown up in popularity.  We were captivated by how effortlessly Minkoff created her African-Safari-Chic-Mod-versus-Rocker infused heroin.  Her use of bold jewel tones and primary hues paired with brocades and ancestral prints refreshed classic silhouettes in a subtle yet obvious way.  Our favorite look from the collection was the casual, Sunday-stroll ensemble of royal blue skinnies and a chestnut swing coat topped with a banana yellow python bolero.  Despite the show lasting only fifteen minutes, the Rebecca Minkoff love didn’t end with her grand finale look.  That evening, Lane-Knight was exclusively invited to the Rebecca MInkoff afterparty at the Darby Downstairs, a supper-club and subterranean lounge nestled in the West Village.  The crowd-mosphere was amazing and I think its safe to say that the party was the cherry that topped off our day.

The rest of our experiences at New York Fashion Week were just as tremendous.  Attending shows like Rebecca Taylor, Jill Stuart, Mara Hoffman and Lela Rose, we saw even more budding trends for Fall 2012.  Blue and black combos, burgundy and fiery red hues reigned supreme on the runways.  Tartan and Southwestern prints were featured on countless collections in unexpected ways.  Decadent fabrics like lace, velvet, leather, fur, as well as detailed embroideries and brocades, encapsulated the catwalks, producing dramatic, yet demure exhibitions.  We viewed a fantastic showing of such drama at the Monique Lhuillier show.  Sitting front row, we were awestricken by the glamourous, 1940s inspired gowns, cocktail dresses and chic tuxedos in crimson and black.  Evocative of film noir, the collection was the epitome of what the polished style of Fall 2012 will be.

As our trip to New York had to draw to a close, so too did Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week itself - as we headed back home to Texas, fashion week jumped over to London.  It’s safe to say that we are more than a little jealous of those lucky attendees of London Fashion Week which runs until February 21st.  However, our adventure at Lincoln Center and beyond the velvet ropes was a perfect dose of sartorial ecstasy to hold us over until September’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.  Until then New York!
